Blunt Declares Cardinals Day

ST. LOUIS–Gov. Matt Blunt has declared today Cardinals Day, in honor of St. Louis winning the 2006 World Series. Blunt will participate in this afternoon’s rally at Busch Stadium.

The rally will take place after the team’s victory parade, and is expected to start between 3 and 3:30. Cardinals radio broadcasters Mike Shannon and John Rooney will serve as masters of ceremony. Blunt, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and other leaders will speak at the rally. Each Cardinal player will be introduced by Shannon and Rooney. The rally will also include fireworks.

“I’m delighted to declare today as Cardinals Day, as fans celebrate this much-deserved world championship,” Blunt said. “Like all Missourians, I’m proud of the work Manager Tony LaRussa did to win the World Series, and bring the trophy back to St. Louis.”
